Just thought I would share a couple of pics of the build I'm currently working on.  I'm really liking this Tabak box.  I like how deep it is and how thick the wood is on all side pieces.  I'm also a fan of black boxes.  Glad I was able to pick up 2 of them at a local cigar shop.

Neck is two piece red oak with a scarf joint headstock and 630mm scale (~24.75).  I used a separator sheet from a cigar box laminated on the headstock before painting it black to match the box.  The cigar store I buy boxes from gives me as many separator sheets as I want :-).  Side dots were made from plastic plugs I have from another hobby where the intended purpose is to plug shafts in golf clubs with a thru-bore design.  The face dots are from a black plastic coat hanger.  Not sure I'll use a coat hanger again as there are a lot of voids in the plastic.  Went with black tuners to finish off the black theme.  Neck is finished with Minwax wipe on poly.

The neck is installed into the box so that it will have a slight angle; end of neck is roughly 1/8" higher than where it enters the box.  The neck is attached via machine screws into threaded brass inserts; I tend to assemble/disassemble quite a bit during a build and the threaded inserts make this much easier and I don't have to worry about wallowing out mounting holes.

I'm now at the point were I'm deciding on what to use for a nut, bridge, tailpiece, and general box finishing (sound holes, box corners, etc).   I'm pretty sure I want to use some sort of gold tone material for the nut to contrast the black headstock and to tie-in with the gold wording on the box.  Tailpiece will most likely be a cut-off piece of a cabinet hinge or possibly a door strike plate.  Perhaps a piece of oak with a fret as the bridge.

Anyway, on to the pics:
