Hi. I just had to slot a couple of necks so I thought I'd show how I do it with a power tool, in this case a Makita laminate trimmer.

I have a lot of routers and trimmers, but by modifying the bases of a router or trimmer you can have one router with say four bases and just choose the one for the job at hand.

In this case I chose the base fitted out to route a truss rod slot.

I think the photos tell the story, hope you enjoy

Great idea Taff!

I'm a fan of making bases myself and it looks like you have a good handle on it but I have to respectfully ask why you wouldn't just use a dato blade on the table saw?

Hi Frank, less waisted time changing the saw blade and back again, and setting up fence and saw heights. Plus the saw blade would leave a "ramped" slot at one end that I would have to chisel square.

Compare that to simply lifting the trimmer body out of its base and sliding it into another, dedicated to its job.
