I have made three cbg's now all with neck through with fretboard on top the first 2-3" with lid cutout.
I have seen many designs where the fretboard stops just at the beginning of the box.
I would like to try this design but am unclear on how to layout.
Does the combination of the scale length and width of box determine placement of the fretboard and how far it extends? If I use a 24.75 scale length board can several frets be cutback to achieve this position? Any help or pics appreciated

Yes,just determine where you want the bridge, work your scale length from that point, and terminate the fret board at the start of the box,you will still get 14 or more frets depending on your scale, you could also extend the board OVER the box without cutting or touching the box lid if you want

Hi Brent, I'm new at this, but my first four are all neck-through and stop at the box. I use a 36" neck and a 25" scale length. With 6" of head and 1.5" of tail, I can still get 20 frets with a 9.5" box.

I just uploaded a picture of "Eva - full" which is the clearest photo I have of this layout: http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/eva-full

Hey Brent. The other guys have pretty much explained everything, just don't worry about the number of frets, you might need to cut some down to have the fretboard terminate at the box. However moving the scale length up a bit (so the bridge is closer to the centre of the box) you won't loose too many. I can generally get 21 frets on a 12" box with a 25" scale.
