I'd love to build my own amp other than the little one I made from some computer speakers with their own internal mini amp. But I'm too busy building guitars and working to have the time. I borrowed a friends Roland Micro Cube amp and I am hooked on this little baby! 5W,Amazing sound, small (size of a car battery), light weight (less than 5lbs), tons of effects and tones, built in key of A tuning fork, 110 volt power or 6 AA batteries (20 hours run time). Price new $129.00 in Canada, used on e-bay about $69.00. This little box is a busker's dream machine. I'm getting one, I don't think there is anything I've seen that compares to it.

Pawn shop .... 15 bucks ... 5w Lyon ( cheapo Washburn ) ..... 9v battery ...... lasts forever.

Also, playing one of these suckers thru a 100w bass amp is almost a religious experience!

Good score on that amp Matt! Haven't even seen one of those. I'd love to try my CBG through a 100watts with a little delay and some mellow tone......ahh, one can dream!!!
My first diddly bow was a simple board with a tuner and a bass string. That thing sounds like manna from heaven when played thru my bass practice amp.
One of these days I'm gonna drag it ti church and play it thru the 100w ..... YUM!

Matt
I think Matt got a Washburn brand amp not the Roland Micro cube. The Lyon amp and Guitar were sold thru department stores like Target. You can get good stuff at tag sales when the kids get thru with them. I have one of the Micro Cubes, got it on sale but still over $100.00, but its a great portable amp. I think Crate also makes a portable comparable to the roland and there is always the Pignose, has anyone tried one of those? They have been around for years should be some used ones cheap. I still want to make one of the micro amps just to say I made my own.

I build my own amps, and they sound good. But nothing like the Cube. MY buddy has one and it sounds great. I can't beleve Matt got one for 15 bucks.
Here's my 5w Lyon. $15 at the pawn shop. $10 for the two 6" speakers at Radio Shack. AC/DC operation. I keep the supplied 9v adapter inside the "cabinet", secured with velcro. It's screamer!

Nice build Tom....that looks great, very cool!

Thanks for the comments! It's a nice little amp. I've got another one the Lyon amps that I got a while back for cheap. Planning on building another one like this soon that I'll probably try and sell. - T

I recently got a used VOX DA5 at Guitar Center. Man I love that thing. Has CD/MP3 input and headphones (for the wife). Will blow the window out of the house if I'm not careful.

I picked up one of these Behringer GM108s from Amazon:

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/GM108.aspx

Nice little 15W amp with "modeling" for three different amps and three sets of speakers. I can't comment on the accuracy of the modeling effect, but each setting is distinct. You can go from a nice, mellow jazzy sound to full-on distortion.
My resonator sounds downright nasty with the distortion kicked up.

I still like my little Danelectro Honeytone...Only 20 bucks and it sounds good and is super portable.
i reboxed a danelectro honeytone in a george burns cigar box and run little digitec foot pedal with like a million sounds through it. it all runs off batteries so its good for the back yard!
I'm thinking of taking the little amp circuit out of an old computer speaker and mounting it in one of my new guitar builds. It would allow for amplification with headphones or just plug in a speaker. Not a lot of power but enough to brighten up the sound a little. I've got a Micro Cube put away on layaway at the local music shop, I can't wait to get it. Till then my friend is letting me use his.
Hey Tracy. I love to build as well. Always putting something together. Heres my latest amp build. Doin a jam this summer and no power there so I built this monster amp ! 3 countem 3 - 4 watt amps in a 6 speaker cabinet. 2 instruments and 2 people can sind all outta the same amp and it all runs on a tractor battery !! Each amp has it's own 2 8 in. speakers and the mic amp has 2 6 inchers. Should wake somebody up ! lol
