How do you cut out your head stocks in a one peice three string neck. I have been using my jig saw, but not geting very even cuts.....I guess I can cut and sand afterwards........on that note....food for thought...when you see a band saw at the local flea market for 10 dollars and think you would never use it, BUY IT ANyWAy! You can at least use it later on or sell it for more down the road...Come on....what is ten dollars! (Still kicking myself for missing that buy)

Well I bit the bullet and just made a seperate head stock peice, a two peice type of neck. Two wood screws and washer into the neck, and it's working pretty good so far. I was giong to dry fit it all and then glue it later, but it is working so well, for now I have just left it the way it is.
This is how I build my necks .2 Piece necks that are very easy to do.Then I just lay the neck on its side ,mark out what I want to cut off and get to wackin.Quick ,easy and you have your angled neck, plus stronger (I think) then a 1 piece.

Hey there I use my table saw to cut a scarf joint then I use a router for my slotted headstocks If you are interested I can try to post pictures of the jig I use on the table saw. There are pictures on my page of the simple jigs I use for slotting and tuner placement. The tricky part is making certain that the scarf joint stays lined up. I hope it helps - Jim
I've been giving this some thought, why not make a template so you can just clamp your wood to the template and use a router to make all the cuts. This would be a quick way to shape a lot of necks and head stocks.
Absolutely. Masonite I suppose would work well. You'ld probably need a set of router collets or something - WY

Ok, I do something like that,... Diane in Chicago said:

This is the idea, but this one was with all 3/8" stock for neck, head back and fingerboard.

Awesome! These pics are great. I'm gonna have to make a jig like this.

Also the fretboard is sweet too!
