You failed already at "the blues should NEVER", bro.

Well, probably 7 bar blues won't be a runner, but AFAIK there were no rules like "standard blues tuning" or "thou shalt not use a capo for it is a devils own contraption and a slap in the face of our Lord, B.B. King."

OTOH - quite an interesting discussion, but - is it some kind of a holy war? "Capists" vs. "Retuners"?

Like "C extension" vs "5th string" vs "purists" among the upright bass players? ;-)

Using a capo always takes my playing up a few notches.  Hee hee yuk yuk.  Aw never mind. :-)   My first capo was a wooden pencil and some string.  Interesting topic.
That's the perfect capo for a cigar box guitar Mike.
A pencil and some string??? We paid neighbours' children to press and hold the strings at the 3rd fret...
Ha!  Good idea.  Organic capos.

You're right - I hadn't thought of it in CBG terms.  A stub of pencil and string would fit very well. Thanks for the idea!!!

I'm sure most have seen this already, but the human capo comments compel me to share it. ;)

HUMAN CAPO X 2!!!!!

Capo?

But seriously, check out the capo action here starting at about 1:20

Here is an interesting capo.

http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/KLEV-G.htm

They call it an open G capo, but actually from standard tuning it frets the D,G, and B strings giving you Open A, EA(EAC#)E.

Of course, all the fingerings are the same as Open G tuning, but the guitar sounds a whole step higher to the key of A.

A fun little devise for those who play mainly in open tuning and want to quickly change to Open tuning for bottleneck slide.

Enjoy, Keni Lee

Don't buy the Open G capo if you want to use it for slide.  It does make the open A chord, but it doesn't retune the guitar so you must use standard chord forms above first position.  If you use a slide, it will be the same as playing slide in standard tuning except for the open strings.
Thanks Jim for commenting and clearifying this. I am not sure I fully undertsand. Doesn't it clamp on the 2nd fret? Covering strings DGB? So the 2nd fret acts as the nut? I appreciate your response. Enjoy, Keni Lee
