There is a fine line between wrecking a good antique, and salvaging junk into a CBG. Don't be so desperate to trash a valuable relic. Now if the clock is toast, have at it. LOL

you really dont need to take the face off of this clock if you want to use it fer a cbg mr paul they are in abundance as the clock face only on e-bay i have seen them fer just a few bucks,you prolly could find one exactly like that one even. look up old clocks or old clock faces or old clock parts and you would be amazed at what you will find.

Oh, but the clock is already mine. My Mom and Dad gave it to me. It doesn't work well. I think it needs a new main spring, Runs a few hours and quits. I took it all apart and cleaned it real good once, but same thing.

I have one very similar -- prolly made by the same manufacturer or in the same time period. I know the bezel is the same. Anyhow, take it to a clockworks shop and have them give it a good look. If its gonna cost $$$, junk it and build your CBG. Mine in my case came from South Carolina via Guam. Go figure.

This one is a Dixville manufactured by the Waterbury Clock Co, Waterybury, Conn. I have no Idea when. HA! I moved it and coarse it started running gave we three bongs. I wonder how hard it is to replace a mainspring.

Oh, Thanks bairfoot! I took your suggestion and looked on e-bay for clock parts. Spent 3 hours browsing! Some awesome stuff on there. Great potential for decorations and thing on CBGs. Just what I needed, something else to look at on e-bay!.

E Ingram - Briston Conn. Note the bezel and the faux marble look. Same style. Must have been a regional thing.

Wes, ever worked on clocks? I'm trying to figure out how hard it is to change a mainspring.

About as much as you my friend. I took mine apart to "clean" years ago but did not mess with the mainspring other than lightly oil it. Seems there was some corrosion that had prevented the spring from releasing as usual. I would venture to say that the mainspring is made of a certain type spring metal to a certain thickness and length. Only a clock shop would know how to replace/repair it.

IF you do get into it, BE VERY CAREFUL. You have to unwind it completely to prevent it coming apart in your hands and its quite sharp. I would advise not messing with it. And if you do get it out, its a bbbbeeeeooooottttcccchhhh to get back in.
