Hello.

New here, 1st build, also new to slide guitar, and open tuning.

The demo videos i have seen are calling for open G tuned (GDG), but the strings I received from C.B. Gitty say open G (GBD). I am assuming this is in relation to what gauge strings I am using?

I was wondering if some of the slide guitar blues experts :) here can help me decide what will work best for me. (GDG) seems to be the most common.

I am building a 3 string, fretted, cigar box guitar with a P90 soapbar pickup.  I have a little blues guitar experience with minor pentatonic scale positions in standard tuning. But not sure how to apply that to open G tuning. (but LOVE the slide guitar sound).

Tons of great info in this site, and thanks in advance for any further info.

GDG is the bottom end of open tuning used mostly by blues and rock players and I the easier of the two to play and learn.

GBD is the bottom end of trad dobro tuning as used mostly by bluegrass and (to a lesser degree) hawaiian players, and is a little more work, but more flexible in terms of what it can do.

theyre both great, but id recommend starting with GDG.

have fun

Ditto to Jeff's comment...remember to string up GDg tuning with the 543 strings (ADG) and simply tune down the A to a G.

or tune the D and G up one full step to E and A so you have an open A tuning

Go Dog Go, that's how I roll.

I started out getting used to the basic chords....There's more ...when I find the chord shape chart I'll post it for you.

Thanks all of you for the info..
