Cigarbox Record Cutting Lathe: Meena Cryle - Try Me

Experimenting on cutting audio tracks into obsolete CDs. The cutting lathe was built around cigar boxes.

The previous cutter heads were crap - this time i kept it as simple as possible: A Visaton EX 45-S Exciter with a sharpend drill glued on it. That loudspeaker doesn't have membrane but a plastic mounting plate which vibrates.

The soundfile was equalized with the Audacity program; high frequencies above 6kHz were cut off, the rest was equalized with an inverted RIAA filter. The next step is to install a feed screw (the cutter head was moved by hand for this recording).

The track I used for experimenting is "Try Me", taken from Meena Cryle. Check them out, they're great! www.meenacryle.com

hahaa, yea... but wait till you see the next step. I'll use old x-ray photos to make bigger records. In the Soviet Union the young folks copied non available Western music records... stay tuned :-)
