Hi

Finishing off my first fretless CBG and trying to figure out the height of the bridge and nut. I've grooved out the neck for the nut and it is sitting at it is sitting at 3.5mm or 9/64".
Should the bridge sit level or higher than this?
Thanks
Will post up photos of completed CBG once machine heads / strings fitted.

Hi, at both ends I think it's best to talk string heights. At the nut start with a string hieight of say 2/64", you can deepen the slot to come down if needed. The nut slots are best not deeper than the strings thickness, so lowering the top of nut itself it also a requirement.

The bridge height, to the top of saddle, idealy I set at 5/8" or 1/2". Then using a straightedge on the nut and saddle I look for a gap between fingerboard and under the string of say 6/64" or 2mm at the 12th fret. I work in metric and impearial measurements.

To get that spec, I angle the neck to lower or raise the string off of the fingerboard. This is to keep a decent back angle over the bridge. Lowering the bridge will also work, but can mess with the breakangle and string pressure on the top.

The bottom line is it depends how fussy you want to be, the string gauge, scale length and playing style have a bearing on set up too.

Good luck, Taff. HTML for replys...

Thanks, I'll give that suggestion a go.
I've already changed the bolt I'm using as a nut. So that's lowered it to 2mm.

Ok, don't forget to measure the scale from the point on the bolt where the string leaves it, not from the front edge of the bolt, unless the bolt is square. Hahaha.
