I'm thinking how to make steampunk microphone.
I don't wanna use any plastic covers shells etc.

Tea ball mic looks great and steamy. Problem is tha it sound tinny and
high frequencies. Maybe if I make it right it don't sound ? This looks great but too big http://handmademusicclubhouse.com/photo/crystal-element-harp-microp.... Bullet mics are great.

First I need to find right microphone element. I Like to have vintage sound.
I was thinking to dynamic mic. For Tea egg etc. Its to big

second I need shell. Maybe I can find something in hardware store or some store.
Tea ball sieve and small sieve looks great for bullet mic front cover.

Now I don't know if this will help...but at our local hardware store they carry a compound that when it is exposed too air it hardens like cement...I often thought this would be great for molding special projects. It was in the glue section...it kinda looks similar too black clay. I forget the name, cause I never used it...but did see it work. I thought about molding a harp mic with it...but I forgot all about the stuff till you asked what use..I figured if I carved the wood too look like the inside specs...I could wrap it with the compound ...then remove the wood insert after drying....may work...I don;t know....sounds good in theory...lol

Hope this helps..

you  could  convert  this  lil  guy     ..   (its alot smaller  that it looks  in the  pic) ,  and  has a  cool   metal  snake    stem .

I'm making one out of a small parmesean cheese shaker. the top (grill) is metal. the body is clear plastic but I'm going to use metallic spray paint on it.

I'm using a rubber drain plug for a gasket & to secure the mic element.

There's a lot of different kinds:
