Thanks, Vern. Not heard of that sustain thing w/ mass added to the head stock. You might be right about the sales pitch.  Adding mass to the head will help balance a body heavy git, though. And this  brass wood protector is also an eye catching bit of functionality, too.

Not sure Dano haven't tried it without the brass piece. Mostly it's there so the nuts wouldn't sink into the wood when I tightened them. I read somewhere that adding mass to the headstock increased sustain. I don't know if it's true of not I suspect it was a sales pitch to sell a brass gadget to guitar players. I've never met anyone who uses one of the gadgets.

I'll be installing a piezo soon as the input jacks I ordered arrive.

Nice use of eye-bolt tuners & great head stock design, Vern.  Did the brass plate in the head have any effect?
