Hi all,

Been lurking here a few days, just popped on to see how and what (well the basics) of building a CBG.

I have a few things people on the sites on the web know me for, one is recycling/re-purposing for my own benefit, more than the environment.

I am also from the "Monkey See, Monkey Do" school of thought.

Between my wife Nicola and I we have a few interests, she collects smoking pipes and associated "stuff" and has a 1956 Ford Anglia, known as Myrtle, which she chose over an engagement ring when we decided to get married (She does have a thing for diamonds though and got her ring in the end) She is also a great partner in crime, because she both encourages some of my hobbies and interests and allows me to come into the house late from the shed without putting my dinner in the bin.

I have a 1963 Ford Taunus Transit, which I imported from Germany in very late 2007. It was a former village fire engine. Last year we built a Grumann style Teardrop trailer, known as the "Grizz-Pod" as she was named by the members on www.retrorides.proboards.com which is where a lot of what I do gets posted in the Readers other Modifications section. Here is a LINK:

One of the guys I have become great friends with on www.mikenchell.com which is a USA based Teardrop site sent me a small parcel at the end of last year with various items, including Catnip for our cats, some handmade silver jewelery, and a few CBG starter bits, including a cigar box.

I DO NOT PLAY A NOTE OF MUSIC....... But absolutely love music, so was up for the challenge.

I will copy and paste my build progress here for you guys to give input and advice on.

This was the first entry:

Tonight on the way home from London, my wife Nicola texted me to ask if she could open a parcel that had been addressed to Mr & Mrs "Grizz"  Of course I said, who is it from ? She texted back Gary in Oklahoma, and then refused to tell me what was in it, except that she loved the contents.

When I got home she gave me a cuppa tea, let me greet the cats etc, then presented me with the box in the photo below.

I will not explain it all, but will say that there was a challenge in the total package..... now the trick is for you guys to figure it out and let us know if you can see what the challenge is that Gary put to me. It is not too cryptic, just look at the contents and think a bit latteraly.

Thanks Gary. .... there goes my holiday break  8)

All three the cats went mad for the catnip, a super charged variety grown for Garys cats.

If you want to see more, let me know..... I do take progress pics a lot.

For those with an interest in old cars etc.... here are the cars.

Here is the final pic until I find a decent place or setting to photograph the CBG.

Thanks to all for their help, advice, input etc.

Cigarboxnation.com you guys are a great help and resource.... THANKS !

Please post comments and whether this posting/thread has been a help.

Thanks, Rian.

I really enjoyed following your progress. I'm looking forward to seeing a video of you sat next to your caravan on a balmy evening entertaining your misses and the cats (high on catnip) with some homemade style Blues.

Looks great Rian! neat job (-:

LOL @ Brickdust..... Bus has been parked up for a year now, kinda lost interest as so many other projects, and was made redundant last January after 14 years with a company.... got a new job September, but only 12 mth contract.

The bus has a 1.8 Ford Zetec 16v fuel injected engine in, so it goes like hell, but stopping it is also hell.

I really need to remember the date, would be happy to let someone play it, who can make it sound half decent.

That said, i am on Ebay right now looking out for a small cheap amp.

Will update later with bottles and couple of pool cue's that may just be my next DB.

A fine lookin' build. Enjoy.

                                                                    Awooh-awooh! Aarrroooo!!!!!

                                                                               Very nice...

Wanting to make up a decent glass slide, I had to dig in pub rubbish dumpsters yesterday, and found some bottles, as we do not drink much at our place.

The first place I stopped at had no bottles but there were 2 used pool sticks in the dumpster..... so I wondered if they could form part of the still to be built Diddley Bow.

The one bottle may become part of it as well, as the bridge.

Whatcha think ??????

Still have to figure out the best way to "cut the neck" off a bottle.

Toss up between a low energy lightbulb and a bottle for the bridge.

I've had very good results making slides using the method shown in the linked video.

Wine Bottle Cutting

Hi mate, just been in the shed and made 4 slides... need to try them out in a bit, will post pics and report later.

hey fella . phil from telford england. helloo.

Rian,

I've used these three methods to make bottleneck slides: standard little glass cutter; a Dremel with a diamond cutoff wheel, grinder attachment, and buffing wheel; and the old fashioned application of Newton's Third Law.

The Dremel definitely gives the cleanest, fastest cut, and you can get it pretty smooth as well as sculpting a curved finger relief slot. The standard glass cutter requires too much effort to keep straight on a curved surface, takes too long, and gives uneven, splintery results. The Third Law can occasionally give good results, but more often you get a cut, smashed finger.

Rian,

Great thread, looking forward to future builds from you!!
