Hello, I am building my first CBG. I had a question about connecting the piezo to the 1/4" input jack. Is it possible to solder the red and black wires of the piezo directly to the jack or is the short piece of cable with a ground wire needed?

you can solder directly without grounding, just make sure you get the positive and negative wires straight before you solder.
piezo elements used to generate signal, have no positive and negative , both leads have the same output signal. therefor , it doesnt matter witch way you wire it.one wire to each tab on a mono jack .
maybe I'm crazy, but I've accidentally soldered the wires backwards and gotten no signal. re-soldered them the other way and they worked fine, so I always do it now.
What are the advantages of having the piezo grounded.
one of the leads is the ground, completing the circuit.
I read somewhere that it's best to replace the supplied skinny-little wires with a piece of audio cable. Center "hot" lead to the middle part of the piezo, and the braided "ground" to the outside brass part.
Don't really know if there's any difference using the audio cable, as I've never done them any different than this!

They seem to work OK...
