Looking for a small practice amp to use with a piezo equipped CBG. See alot of the Danelectro Honeytones, anyone got first-hand experience with it? Others? Looking for battery capability as well as a/c adapter. Thanks

Hello jkevn -

I just posted some shots of a little CB amp I just finished. Started off with a Lyon (Washburn) LA5 amp I got at a local Pawn Shop for $15. Check out my album and see what you think. 5 watts running into dual 6" with vol, tone and adjustable gain. Runs off of 9 volts or AC with the included adapter. Total cost with speakers and hardware was somewhere around $40-$45. Good Luck!

My personal favourite is the pignose amp. Didn't use it with a GBG (just joined this group) but i did use it with a bluesharp & self made mic. This little amp really rocks...

We've been playing our CBG through a Vox DA5 ... sounds Great with the RS buzzer piezo trick , and the effects give it a degree of smoothness, and space most appreciated with CBG Tone ... I'm sure the Roland would be just as good ... Tried it in my Lil Smokey , sounded AWFUL till I plugged in some bigger speakers (4-12" ) Tried it in my Tech 21 TM-10 .... That was nice too !!!
Finally , I plugged it into one of my handmade P2P Plexi SE 5watt valve amp ... played that with the band .... Wowsers!!! The band loved the authentic TONE .... !!!!!!
I was going to build me one of these:

They sound great for what they are, and I need an amp small enough that I can clip to the strap, so I can walk around the house playing. I do that a lot, it helps me clear my mind.

But, just yesterday I found a deal on a Danelectro bacon & Eggs. It was an open box deal, and cheaper than buying the parts to make my own mini-amp.
It's very simple (no tone or volume knobs) toy. It does what it's supposed to, but now my next build (and first electric) is going to have a volume knob.

Someday I have to get me a pignose, but I can't really justify or at least rationalize spending $70+ shipping on one of these piggies.

But It looks so cool! And it has sweet sound.
I have a battery powered Marshal mini-stack that I use on stuff that I installed piezo type pickups on that works quite well .It has a 9volt battery that has a normal amount of life on it.Picked up this amp awhile ago from Skip's Music in Sacramento, was inspired to look into this amp after seeing a street performer use one of these with his Strat on the streets of Paris. You might also consider a Pignose Hog 20,12 volt lead acid battery that charges itself when the thing is plugged into the wall.
I have used a honeytone. It was o k but I found a Johnson for about 30 bucks that has more drive and volume I love it I use it to record monkey on my back
The Danelectro Hodad sounds pretty good, I played one my friend has. It has some cool effects and has dual little speakes mounted on angles so it does a pretty good job of filling the room with sound. You could check out a review of it on youtube by TEXMEXY to hear it for yourself. He plays through it with a slide too.
I currently use a Roland Micro Cube with my other ukulele (my first CBU is on it's way). I don't think anything smaller would have the clarity but if I had a slide diddlyboo, I certainly use my Smokey!
Great Googly-Moogly! Looks like a "Buskers Stack"!

My favorite is the Orange Micro Crush. I also have the Fender Twin and the Marshall and they don't compare. The Crush actually sounds like a real amp, because it has a good 4" speaker and 3 Watts output (compared to 1 watt for the others). It has a jack for a 9V adapter. A nice bonus is a built in guitar tuner. Another reason I like the Orange is that it was easy to take apart when I installed it in a Acid Cigar box. Check out my photos!
Here is a link to where I bought mine.

honeytone!
I got a cigarbox amp off ebay uk a few months ago from a with the tag "space_man2". I seem to remeber he also sells the amp on it's own for about 12 pounds GB. I like the amp although it sounds better with a magnetic pickup than a piezo in my opinion. I also have the microcube and I love the range of sounds.

Does anyone do their own amps in Cigar boxes?

I've been looking at several National Semi parts that look promising.

I got a JFR Cuban Seed Corojo cigar box that would hold a 6" to 7" speaker and lots of room for the amp, heat sink and fan, etc. This would work in the 5-15W range. This would be a basic amp with tone and volume control. No parametric equalizer, etc. Just a plain n dirty amp. Pre-amp for either inductive pickup or piezo could be included.

A 15V 1A worthog (wall dongle, plug in power converter, etc) would support up to 15W.

I'm an engineer so I may be way off base from what most people feel comfortable doing.
