Ok, I have an anniversary coming up and need 3-string help. I learned to play "our song" on a six string way back when I proposed, and thought I would learn to play "our other song" for this anniversary. I have it down but cant seem to find Bm and E7 on my 3-string tuned G-D-G. Those are the only two notes I need. If anyone on here can help me out I would appreciate it! Thanks, David

Bminor can be played by fretting the 1 and 3 strings at the fourth fret and leaving the 2 string open, or you can fret the 1 and the 3 strings at the seventh fret and the 2 string at the ninth fret, or you can fret the 1 and the 3 strings at the eleventh fret and the 2 string on the ninth fret. These are incomplete chords but it gives you a basic Bminor.

E7 can be played by fretting the 1 and the 3 strings at the first fret and leaving the 2 string open or you can fret the 2 string at the second fret. String 2 at the sixth fret and strings 1 and 2 at the seventh fret. These are also incomplete chords.

hope this helps.

Hello,

I don't know how much time you have to make this arrangement, but I would like to make a suggestion.

If you are using strings ADG to tune GDG, you can retune to ADf# (Open D).

This tuning offers a complete system of movable chords that works very similar to a 6 string guitar.

I believe you will be able to create a much nicer arrangement.

Please check out this video for an example:

I teach this approach on my instructional video CD 6 (How to Play 3 string CBG Part 2 / Devil Tuning).

Congrats on your upcoming Anniversary.

Please write if you have any questions.

Enjoy your practice, Keni Lee

Wow! Good stuff guys. Thanks so much for the help and tips. I greatly appreciate it!

Bm: 4-4-7 (low to high, complete chord)

Here are some ideas for approximating an E7, do what sounds best. All are low to high:

1-2-4 (just E) then lift a finger for 1-0-4. That goes nicely into 2-2-2 if that's next.

4-2-1 then 4-0-1 (same idea)

9-6-7

9-9-7

Knowing the song/chords would help because I'd choose what to play based on what the melody is doing and how the progression is changing.

Next time - use the "chorderator" ;-)

http://www.chorderator.com/cgi-bin/generate.py?optionsDisp=yes&...

As for 7ths on a 3-string in chorderator - I'd double the middle string G-D-G-(D), and try to play the chords skipping 1st or 3rd degree ("select 3 of 4 notes").

(if KLB says something different - take his advice ;-) )
