I really started working on it.

I cut the box to fit the neck on both ends.
Will then decide on how I do the headstock, make it, then will glue the freboard.

I want to keep it simple, but do what it needs to play well and sound good.

More to come

I had to do the same on one of my builds. I didn't have a bolt big enough and had already made the cut for it, so I added a piece of wood underneath and filed it to seat the bolt, to give my the desired height.

Today, I sanded the headstock to for a cleaner look and closer to the final shape.

I also glued a piece of wood to fill the notch I made before for the nut.

I decided to use a brass bolt instead. It fits better with the look of the guitar...

I still need to adjust the height of the brass nut, but I need to finish the bridge before.

Looking good.

I took the guitar apart and began using my router on the box...

BUT... I took a little time today to test the new Flatpup pickup I received today by mail. I love it...

As you can see in the picture, I just taped it to my first tramp guitar, not my build, and compared the included pu with the new one and WOW, the Flatpup is rwice as loud, at least, and sounds wonderfully good.

So I can't wait to finish my build and install the Flatpup I bought for it.

Is that the place you plan on installing the flatpup? reason I'm asking is that you may have problems being so close to the other pickup because of the direction the single coil is wound and magnetic polarity. 2 double coil pups aren't usually a problem close together, but if one of the pups is a single coil you get problems. you'd be better off with on near the neck and one near the bridge, but would still have a problem with the 2 pups together. That can be overcome though.

No, it won't even be on that guitar...

As I mentioned, I used the first tramp guitar I bought from Ebay just to test the pu because the one I am building right now is not resdy.

I used that tramp guitar to check if I would like playing one without having to build one. I realized that I loved playing a 4 string ebg, and that this first one wouldn't satisfy me.

So the one I'm building right now should fit my needs better. More precise fret positioning, better pick-up, etc... In other words, a better build...

And that's where I will install that Flatpup?..

Okay gotcha.

Finally, I was able to correct the mistakes I made while working on the box...
It's been faster to make another one correctly right at the beginning than trying to fit things together with the first box I started.

I wanted to put the top board even with the neck, but after using the router to do it, I realised that there was a better way to do it.

I just installed the neck higher in the box, added some width to the neck to be able to screw the pick-up, and all I need to do now is cut 2 lengths of wood for the top.

Ouf... back on the track now...

Sometimes the right idea comes along after you've done something else, then you say next build.

That's right.

But the good thing with a neck through the body is that nothing's lost until it's glued.
It's cheaper to buy a new box that a new fretted neck to build another one.
Oh, and I also received 2 bone nuts and 2 wooden bridges from C.B.Guitty.
Yesterday, I couldn't wait and installed the strings for a test. I'll keep working on the rest of the box while testing the neck.
It answered my question about what is a cigar box...
It's a neck installed on a cigar box.
Mine is a 4 strings wooden box guitar, not a cigar box guitar... :-)

So... here is the playable neck, with and without the box.

I like to be able to this.

Pretty cool Gilles. You may have just started a new trend. All neck guitars, with interchangeable boxes......
