Just finished a three string and after assembly discovered the strings off the tail are touching the box end before over the bridge. Will this affect sound or playability? Do I need to correct?

Depends on how much. Got a pic? How does it sound to you?

It shouldn't effect it though they will dig into the lid.

If the tension over the bridge is fine it should be ok.

Do you have space to add a piece of dowel, a pencil, or a small bolt on top of the tailpiece right where it exits the box? This might allow you a spot to run your strings over so they clear the box. As previously asked, how does it sound? I prefer not to have the strings cutting into the corner edge of the box.

Perhaps a decorative shim over the string holes in the tail to raise them up a touch to clear the box?

I actually had the opposite problem on one build and had to shave down the tail to get a better break angle over the bridge.

This one I raised because the string angle would have damaged the box too much.

This one I left because the angle is shallow and the slight cutting will help to stabilise the bridge (floating) as time goes on

I recall the 90' brass L shaped bracket and like that appearance, where would I find? No luck at menards or Hobby Lobby

Try  Lowe's, Home Depot or local hardware store. Lots of goodies can be found there.
