Anyone have a cool replacement for store bought Strap buttons. I have been asked to put buttons on my builds, but I like the idea of using plumbing parts and such. I've been wandering the stores and resale shops but haven't found anything.

That looks like a great idea. easy to find at any HW store.. I have some so will give it a try on one I'm working on..

the knob types tend to let the strap fall off too easy..

Believe these would work well.. google " furniture connector bolts"

Great ideas . What a good group

Valve caps for car tyres.glue them on a bit of quarter inch dowel. Every shape under the sun available. You might even be able to epoxy a small screw inside them for a screw in style arrangement.

Or whittle your own. All you need is a bit of hardwood a nice sharp knife and some time. For something this small and imprecise a drill and a bit of sandpaper makes a good makeshift lathe.

I have done peg in hole style with whittled hardwood but if you get a set of plug cutters you might be able to knock out hundreds of screw through style ones in minutes..

For loop style string/strap holders ring pullls off cans. Baked beans can ring pulls are especially musical

Bolt with a loose washer. Slip the strap end over the bolt. Then the washer goes threw the strap. Between the strap and bolt head. Great for using straps that tend to come off.

3/8" Grade 5 bolt on my Sawzall Box Guitar.

Because "Nothing But Heavy Duty"

HEAVY duty.

Since I started teaching, I've slimmed down from 199 to 192 and I'm 6'3.  Of course, I'm 12 pounds heavier with the guitar.  So yeah.

I try and find old pieces of "something" to use. The attached shows two sets of what will be strap holders, that came from my departed father's junk drawer.

An empty bobbin from a sewing machine would work.

Similar to Eric's reply, I used carriage bolts through a hole drilled in each end of the box with a nut on the inside and outside to secure the bolt. The wooden box was torch burned and varnished. As I looked at the finished product it jumped out at me....what I needed to really finish it up was a 5" x 5" Frankenstein vinyl sticker and two lightning bolt sound holes.
Frankie #1 was born!
Unfortunately, Frankie #1 was promptly purchased. Frankie #2 is on the drawing board. Or maybe a linen wrapped "Mummy" git.
Or "Creature From The Black Lagoon" with glit sound holes.
Or?
