It's not much of a hum, but it's irritating to say the least. I can make it go away by touching the metal shield around the plug (the male end)....but then I only have one hand to play with so that's not gonna work. Is there a simple solution? Please say it's so !!!!

What kind of pickup are you using? It makes a difference.

Is the pickup cover grounded?

Are the tone and volume pots grounded?

Are the strings grounded?

If all are grounded to the negative tab of the audio jack and you still have hum, then check your audio cable. Is is a good, shielded cable?

Also, check where you are playing. Are you near florescent lights? or any motors (fans, etc).

Also, try moving around the room while playing to see if the hum changes.

There are many, many sources for hum, so it takes a methodical approach to eliminate it.

It's a piezo glued to the box, the volume pot is not grounded neither are the strings. I'll check the other suggestions before I tear into the completed guitar. As a matter of fact, I've got a build I'm working on now and I'll do the afore mentioned groundings before I button it up. Thanx.

Volume pot should be grounded. Is the piezo wired right? The silver disk is the hot lead, should go to the tip on the jack. Others have reported problems with cheap cables....

I tried a second cord, it made a significant drop in the hum volume, it's barely audible now so thanx for the reply's!!! Not being an audiophile and having to wear hearing aids the playing is now more than acceptable to me.
