it getting a bit addictive this cbg malarky!!

this one has no frets, just painted in white emulsion/burnt fret markers.

I tried to get the affect that I ask about in an earlier post about getting those grain marks etc.

this is the best that I could do.

also I used the pick up that I bought off CBjohn and thought it wouldn't work.

like a numpty I tapped it with my fingers mmm no worky ah me thought use a bit of metal  ooh it worked.so all is well and it sounds nice too. heres some pictures.

£35 uk pounds its about $52.

many  folks just    starting out in selling,   use   the cost  x2  guideline .    or  close to  it .

(  inbetween cost   x2  and  x3  )

so  if  it    costs  20  pounds  to  make  ,  sell  it  for  40ish   .  etc  ..

you  can   raise   when needed  or  when  you are  better  known  .

others   pick  a  price  in  other  ways /  reasons  .  not  all  of  them  valid  .

but  , there's a guide line  for   ya  if  ya  need  one .  good   luck  ;-)

yawn  ..

i wasnt telling    anyone  how  to  do anything  ..  nor  how Everyone does  it .

i was stating   what  many  others  use as a "guidline ". here selling cbgs

that's  how  it  is  . that's  the  facts  .  many  use that  guidline .  and that  guidline  falls  into  place   in  most  cases . or    works  out   about  right .  not to  mention   with the average consumer    market  at the moment.

even  your  "atleast "  price at  150   probably    equates  to    cost  x3  or 2     in  your case .  hence the guideline   is an accurate  guide  / approximation.

i  also  said    you  can raise the  price   once  you   need  to  .  or  are  well   known   and  customer tested   ie: experienced  .

and  have  good costumer feedback  .

also  ,  i  was  not   answering  "everyone's"   question on   this  .

my  reply  was  to   john's   pictured   guitar    ,  his  situation  ,   just  starting  out  ,  and   his  concern  for  ebay  competition  .

sure  there are  100's  of  scenarios    here that  the  guideline  may  not  work  with  ,,  but  10000's  it  does  .

but  in the  end  ... its just a guideline

but  hey  ..  what  do  i  know about selling   guitars ?

lol

yeah  ..  i  saw  the  first  reply  you   erased  too .

well , ..   read  what i  said again  .  i  said   " just  starting  out "    " guide"  " reference"   ie ; a starting point  .

the " x2  or 3  guide "    probably    stems from

"if you are not at least    doubling your money  , it  aint worth  it ."   etc ...

its a good starting  point   if  one feels the  need  to add  to  the price , for  considerations ,  ,  they  can,  or probably  even should .  .  its a   starting point  guide nothing more  .

that being said     ,  first  breaking   into  the   market  and introducing / proving  your  product   for  comparison .

one  must think of the consumer  .  a lower  price   is  a  consideration .

will  they   take a chance  on  a  700  dollar   first time cbg  seller      ,   only   to  find  miss drilled   hole  cover-ups  ,  a warped  neck  ,  mis-scaled  frets     ? or an   "experiment"   guitar  ?

but  hey  .. the  guy  calls  it " art"     so  thats ok  ?

its  easy to  convince   one's self   what  they   think   their    guitar  is   worth ,

but  harder  to  convince    consumers  .

but   the   best   way to  convince them    is by  letting your  first   customers   convince them.

and best way to  get  your  first  customers (without a   pro-shop lutheier   degree / diploma )

   is with a lower  risk.

hell  ,   i   still  consider    my  guitars  under priced  ,   but   i  , and my  customers are  fine  with that.

and like  many  ,  if  i  was  doing  it  just   for  the money  .. i  would have  quit    long ago.

it's also  been said   ;

" the  best  way to  become a millionaire  selling cbgs  ...is  to start out as a  multi-millionaire"

Can I get an appraisal here?

If you guys want to make money on em....

Then don't do it for the money!!!

Don't even try to sell em. Just build build build. Give em away. In a few years you might find your own thing and the sales will seek you out. Don't advertise em online, it's soul destroying. And to be honest you'll just become part of the problem

John, ask yourself if this is a business proposition or if you want to feed your new "hobby/addiction"? Wayfinder is right about donating to charity rather than selling at a flea market price (did that with a really nice pot hanger I made as a blacksmith once). I'm not a cbg artesian by any means, nor am I trying to support myself by making them, I make them for the history, daily use and gifts for "deserving" family (I use antique boxes and necks when I can find them) and only sell one for enough make roughly 2 more. I say roughly because buying old shit to make them out of is spendy and usually more that I planned on. You  made a nice git, your next will be better, and on and on so don't worry too much about what you'll get as payment, enjoy the experience and oh yeah, ditch the plastic tuner knobs and grommets.

Wayfinder, it's the tine end of a large SS spaghetti fork.
