I scored this one for free and am trying to figure out if it will be good for a CBG. It is lined with felt... will that dampen the tone? Should the lining be removed? If so, what is the easy way?
Dimensions are 7 11/16" x 6 1/8" x 3 1/16". Thick sides, and a funky jointed 3-piece thick top, but with a thin bottom [which I would make the soundboard.] I am concerned that the felt and the box size will work against a nice sound. Comments??

No Idea, but I have one of those boxes and I'm definitely going to build it. If you are worried about the felt it shouldn't be that hard to remove. Use a magnetic pickup and it shouldn't matter, nor would the thick top. The other possibility would be to build it as an amplifier. I also like the 'Dirt Torpedo' name.
On the size of the box. I have built a few CBGs from smaller boxes and have been pleasantly surprised at both the tone quality and volume that they have. Part of the fun is trying different approaches to the concept and seeing the results.
I'm currently working with a silverware box. It was velvet lined. I used an oscillating multi tool to peel the velvet out, then switched to a coarse sanding head to take out the old glue. Based on simply tapping the top and bottom, it made a significant difference in sound. The cloth will dampen the sound, so if you want to see how loud it will go, I recommend taking the time to remove the liner. Mine is going to be a resonator and I wan't to be able to play acoustically.
The cloth lining with a humbucker might be a good combination though.
