Hey guys now don't want to start a fight again about can't play chords on cbg as it's been well settled that you can well most chords anyway!!
My question today is for the guys that don't play chords do you convert the tonic of the chord and just play that single note?
Do you play all the note in a certain scale for example song in key of G you convert the chords to the note from the G scales?
Appreciate any help thanks!

Not according to Oxford Music online...you need two or more.

They're call dyads. Tri-tones are triads, which looks similar to triffid. Gosh, I haven't seen that movie in ages...
I'm not subscribed to oxford music online but I'd like to see the context. A dyad isn't a chord, it's a dyad.
Wikipedia http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyad_(music)

"Although all chords have three or more notes, in certain contexts (especially amongst guitarists) a dyad may be considered to be a chord (such as the power chord, which contains three notes, but is not considered a chord by some because two of those notes are octave equivalent)."

And guitarscholar.co.uk/chords

"A chord is a group of three or more notes, which can either be played simultaneously, or played iseparately. In guitar music we also refer to two-note chords (known as dyads) as chords. The most common example of this would be power chords, which consist of two notes a perfect fifth (7 semitones) apart."

So it appears that guitar players have borrowed the term chord, probably out of convenience. On a 6 string this power chord is an option when you want a particular sound. Take an instrument with the same scale length but half the number of strings and it's often your only option. Not ideal.

Because the bottom line is that they don't sound like chords, regardless of what you call them.

*this is true in technical terms*

BUT....

there are times when being 'not a chord' is an advantage!!

just like there are parties where you wish you were still single!!

see my blog ;)

Scruggy, I've arrived late to this discussion.   I read that you want to rock.   I think the thing to do is go to youtube and find Mike Snowden's lesson on playing rock on a 3 string.   Best rock lesson that I have seen.

Just checked him out there! Cool vid!
