You might find that the pressure of the strings pushing down on the bridge might be enough. You could possibly use some corner pieces like those available at Gitty's, they would hold the lid in place I would have thought. Another idea would be to turn the hinge the other way and glue it inside the box to the side and lid.

Screw it down , add a small block in each corner inside the box and screw through that .

A riff on Vinylhed's idea: set one leaf of the hinge under the box top, with the outside leaf on the outside of the box. The hinge will be exposed to the outside, but you screw the hinge leaf into the inside of the box top. This will leave a gap on the hinge side of the box, acting as a sound port.

Anytime I need to put a hinge on a cigar box. I go to Lowes. They have tiny, tiny hinges, perfect of cigar boxes. You could put the screw on the side of your lid. They look nice because they're so small that they're unobtrusive, much like the ones that usually come on cigar boxes. However, if you wish to use the hinge you already have, then others have already given you some excellent ideas.
