I'm wondering if anyone has built a CBG with this kind of box.  It's big enough, pretty deep, but the wood is really thick.  I'm wondering, should I use the thickness and brace it up, going with the magnetic coil pick up?  Or will the thick walls still make for good acoustic sound with a stick or piezzo?  Or a resonator (not keen on trying to glue on a neck though)  Here's the inside

Any recommendations?  I have two of these things...

Normally the top and bottom on these type boxes are thinner than the sides in my experience, which is where the bulk of the sound comes from. I have had good results with either a rod type piezo in the bridge or a disc type piezo.

Bruce is right.  I have that very box, been waiting for something special, though it is deep, it isn't as big as I like my CBG boxes to be...

Perdomo box dulcitar

Mellow sound, not a lot of volume so add an acoustic pickup of some type.

As far as size of boxes...some are surprising, the S.A. Antilles boxes for example are the size of these Perdomos and LOUD acoustically.

Since you have two, send me one >:-E

thanks for the good advice, you are right the top and bottom are thinner wood.  I will acoustic it with the rod in the bridge.  The Dulcimer looks great, love the theme.  I want to start another CBG, but need inspiration for this box, something better than just stringing it up as is.

I think i need to hit the smoke shops again to find a bigger box.  I really want to have a nice acoustic CBG that can stand alone without amp.

Ron - I'd gladly send you the second one, it's a bit scraped up in front, so perfect for an exercise like the Dulcimer, etc.  I know you were kidding, but glad to forward if you have a good idea for it.

Reso! It's deep enough for a Lowe cone.

I have had 4 of them for several years now and I still have not had any inspiration on what to make out of them.  I have also thought of a cat bowl resonator with an attached neck.  I have seen a git made from the box and it had a very banjo like sound, so reso may be the best way to go.

dang, I guess I'll have to try to master the glue on neck.  I saw the resol directions on the other post and it did look cool.  I have done a byo telecaster so i have a little idea of the small tolerances for the the neck joint and how easy to go astray.  I bet it would sound really cool though.  Maybe I finally go out a buy a router for this build....
