I built a 3-string CBG a few weeks ago and the paper covering it is beginning to show wear where it contacts my leg.  The build came out nice and the tone sounds awesome so I would like to keep it looking nice.

I thought of putting clear packing tape on the wear edges of the cigar box.  But, I looked at some of my old packing boxes and some of the clear tapes don't look or stick so good.

Anyone have suggestions for protecting paper covered guitar boxes?

Find attached photo of the CBG.

Get and rag, put some plastic gloves on and rub super glue in.

If you aretalking about wear in the middle of the box, i sparay all my boxes with 2 coats of Shellac then 3 or 4 coats of polyurethane.

If you are talking wear on the corners (I can't see where it's wearing from your photo) put box corners on all 8 sides to protect them. Looks good too :-) Like this.

Beautiful, inspiring work!

Sorry, can't spell this morning. I'm a little under the weather :-(

I've used spray lacquer successfully.   I wonder if stuff like Modge Podge would work . . .

Paper covered boxes get rough.  I normally spend some time gluing down the corners and edges, or they start peeling.

@ John Sawyer  and uncle John .. I in a high humidy area of ala ,, and the Hodge Podge does a wunnerful job . I also just use plain shellac  or will use spray on clear lacquer

they sell this stuff at auto zone that goes on the front plastic bumpers of cars to protcet from rock chips and bugs , it works good too.

I did spray a few coats of lacquer on the paper box before I assembled it.  I think that's helped.  But, I definitely need to re-glue some of the edges.

Corner protection is going necessary, at the least.  I noticed some of the metal corners are made for rounded corner boxes.  This one has pretty square corners.

I'm hesitant to cover the box with film.

My wife's amazed that I could make something like this in a few hours that sounds so good.

Thanks to all for the info posted.

It's an awesome hobby.  So far, everybody I know with ANY musical talent wants one... feels good to be wanted.

Anybody have a good source for box corners?  I might just have to put another order in with Ben...

Meh. Play it til it falls apart, then reuse the parts on another box. Playing wear is a badge of honor, as is every nick and ding.
