Build up the head in back by laminating more wood on so the tuners sit deeper in there

Hello

If I am understanding your problem correctly I think you may be able to use a spider to pull the strings down and keep the nut in place

I use curtain eyes to pull the string down after the nut after it goes though the eye pulling it down it goes to the tunner

Very cool, I am near the La Mesa/Lake Murray area  (Hwy 125 and Navajo rd)...  I'll post some pics once I have something to work with.   I think I'll go get some 1/2" poplar and add it to the base as the kid suggested (THANKS!) and then drill it out and see . . .

 

Any suggestions for the height of the action?
