the Nation's originator, Shane Speal, has asked me to pass along this information.

His sister is in critical condition in need of a liver transplant. She is "hanging in" and is scheduled for surgery later today. They are hopeful that they have located an acceptable donor liver.

I am asking that you regard this need according to your personal spiritual practice.... thoughts, prayers, meditation. Let's join in supporting Shane, his sister and his family....

thank you,

Wichita Sam

Shane and family are now on our prayer list. Keep the faith.
UPDATE: MONDAY Maddie had a tracheotomy this morning as doctors try to deal with a bit of pneumonia. She handled that surgery fine. She's more coherent each day and they're slowly weening her off the sedatives. Here's the latest report from my folks: "Maddie had a very eventful day today. She took small steps all in the right direction. Emotionally it's hard to tell how she is feeling. I can see fear and confusion in her eyes and that's heart breaking. On the other hand I can see her eyes and i am so happy. Dan told her a story about her dog tearing up a pillow and we even got a little smile! It was a good day. Every day with Maddie is a good day! We love you baby girl!!!! Love to all, please keep us in your prayers."

UPDATE from Shane's Facebook status:

Shane [Monday]: We need a little extra prayer this afternoon .They are taking Maddie back to the O.R. sometime today. They are not pleased with the blood flow from the main vessel into the liver. We don't know the plan yet they will let us know soon ,i hope...

Maddie Speal update - Thursday
(remember to hit SHARE to post this note to your profile) Maddie will have surgery today to fix the vessel that is too small. This happens often with young people. They will also do a wash on the liver because she has an infection in her abdomen and this is how they treat it...
positive vibes heading that way.

I just got a call from my dad. Maddie was awake, smiling and watching TV this morning when my stepmom walked in. The nurse in the room told her, "I think we're gonna try to get Maddie up and out of this bed to sit in a chair for a little while."

Can you believe this??? Maddie's gonna get out of bed today!

She still can't talk (trach tube), but is mouthing words. Yesterday, she asked, "so what are they going to do to me today." It's good that she can communicate, at least so she knows what's happening.

Wanna hear more?

My dad had a conversation with the nurse who was there the day Maddie was brought in. "I can only describe Maddie as a miracle," she said. "This is the first time I've ever felt like I took part in a miracle," she added, and went on to tell my dad that Maddie was turning blue when first brought in. Her condition was so bad, there was little hope from the staff. The nurse continued, "she was brought in on my Saturday shift. I was off on Sunday, but I usually call in to get patient statuses. I couldn't call in that Sunday. I didn't want to hear that she was gone."

But Maddie's not gone. She's slowly improving and it's DIRECTLY RELATED to all the prayers each and every one of you have sent up. There is absolutely no other explanation. They'd seen the same condition before (actually not as severe) and the outcome was...you know.

Now Maddie has become the "baby" of the Transplant Intensive Care Unit. The nurses and staff have all developed an affinity for my little sis. My dad and stepmom are doing ok, too but still keep them in your prayers. They've basically camped out in the hospital waiting room for the last two weeks and don't intend on leaving until they take Maddie with them.

So there you have it. Maddie is smiling... God is amazing... And your prayers are more powerful than the greatest liver transplant ICU in the world. I love you guys. Thank you for holding up my sister. You're literally saving her life. I believe this with all my heart.

update - Saturday night (from my Step mother)

Maddie had a terrific day. Lots of visitors, and she was awake for all of them. She had smiles for everyone. Brother Marc said seeing Maddie today was"The best thing he's ever seen". I have to agree! Aunt Tina rubbed her face and shoulders, she was loving it. She's still having alot of pain but they are managing it well. She is known around here as "Our Christmas Miracle". We all know that's true. Thank you God.It was a great day!!!!!

Continued Prayers
Love Patty
