Doughnuts and Cigar Box Guitars (a letter from Shane Speal)

A big ol' hello!

When I worked as a forklift operator, there was a little tradition in the factory to treat your coworkers with doughnuts on the day of your own birthday. That's right...you would buy your own treats and give them to everyone else in your warehouse.

I always liked that idea because it seemed to make the person say "I'm glad I was born and I'm glad I met you." It was the person celebrating his or her own birth because the people around them made their life better.

Today is my birthday. I brought "doughnuts."

I turned 43 this morning and I don't think I've ever been happier in my life. I play music for a living, I have an incredible family and you guys are the biggest blessing to me. So, if you don't mind, I've prepared a little treat for you. (It ain't much.)

CONCERTS THIS WEEK:
Tuesday night, 8pm-11pm: The Cove Nightclub, 1500 S. George St., York, PA. Musicians are encouraged to bring instruments and become part of my band! Note: I will be ending my residency at The Cove next week. It was a great run, but I feel the need to start doing more shows outside of the York PA area. I'll be hitting open mics in the Mid Atlantic States (US) in the next few weeks as a way of auditioning for gigs in those clubs.
Wednesday night, 9:30pm-1am: Shane's Open Mic at First Capital Dispensing Co., 57 N. Pershing Ave., York PA. This is the most creative...and insane open stage anywhere.
