Solutions for Aspiring Musicians with Disabled Hands

In response to the numerous emails I receive from viewers who are interested in playing guitar, but are concerned due to limited function of their hands or fingers, I made this informative video to encourage them in their quest and offer possible solutions. Please feel free to write if I can be of further assistance. Enjoy the Joy of Music.

I can't chord at all-I use a noter, my thumb, a slide or similar, and strum with my left hand.  This makes most of the available CBG learning materials useless for me. A friend is helping me with my first build-a 2 string stick acoustic/electric chugger. Tuning suggestions are appreciated. My 3 string CBG is GDG, and I'd like something different for the chugger. What are good combinations for folk and world music? Thanks!

Hi Big thanks

I have a problem with the grip with my left hand as I have a  thing called Carpel Tunnel and I've always wanted to play Guitar but never had the strength to hold down the Strings then a friend put me in contact with Ben of Randy Rooster ' s who has Been so kind and is going to Build a three String Cigar Box Guitar for me and I  know that he will Build a Great One for Me and I'm Like a Kid waiting for Christmas as he is Busy Building so I've got to wait my turn for the Build.

While waiting I have made some great Slides out of Old wine Bottle's and re built an Old Practice Amp with a new cabinet with extra seeker's to give a more mellow Sound and at my Age I was brought up listening to my Mum's Records Blues and Jazz from Big Mother Thornton/Billie Holiday / John Lee Hooke/Jango Rinhart.

So at the moment I'm trying to pick up as much information as possible ( sorry for the pun ) just can't wait to get started on my new Goal in life.

Thanks again     David .

Thank you for sharing Scott. I teach therapeutic exercise too. Patience is definitely a virtue for everyone. Instead of trying to force everything, leading to repeated states of frustration, learning to relax and approach challenges with a good attitude is key. I sum this up as, the slow and steady determination of the tortoise and the happy go lucky spirit of the hare. We all the story. You really need both. We learn simply because we return with renewed determination to the same old task. Failure is expected. I have many success stories to share. As a teacher, I find myself more a motivator than anything else, because ultimately the student does all the work or chooses to give up. Keep to the path.
