So I am in the beginning stages of building my first License Plate Guitar. I haven't made a guitar yet, though I have completed my first Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer this past year, and made up a bridge for an old one I bought from an estate sale.
I picked up this old Kapok guitar last fall on Main Street for $10 from someone who needed beer money. The body was broken and torn away at the neck from him smacking someone over the head. I was going to use the tuners for another Dulcimer, but they were pretty much shot.
The neck was in good shape though, so I took it apart from the body and glued the fretboard back to it, and sanded all the blue poly-urethane off of it.
Saw some really cool license plate guitars on the Internet and decided that that's what I'm makin' next!
So I finally joined CBN!
Picked up a really cool plate on E-bay tonite- first time in my life the only ones I own are on the truck...
I am still planning things out, and looking for some nice wood to use for a box until the plate gets here.
All for now

Gees that plate is slow getting there.   If it's not there this week, message me and I will send you one.

Still waiting on the license plate to get here. I evened the fretboard off after the 18th.fret- hoping to use the scrap to make a new nut. Also started filing a semblance of my cross into the headstock- should keep me busy for a while! Kept losing it every time I wore it. Heel came unglued on me, but it's all good, it'll be easier to cut it down straight, then I'll glue it back together...

Glad you looked.   Recently Maduro Bob and OneTwoSixguitars had great ones.    Other folks too, but those two come to mind.    Good wishes with yours.

If you are a new builder, I would suggest keeping it simple and going fretless.   If you are new to CBGs, lots of lessons at page top under 'How To Play."     Knotlenny's CBG 101 got me rolling.    Mike Snowden on youtube has some great lessons and one for rock.

I suggest you type in Maddog in the search spot at top right of page.  Hit enter and you should be able to see his icon.  Click on the icon to get to his page.   Click on his photos.   Some great examples there to view.
