Just an idea , has anyone tried a double string diddle-bow, as in say, 2 "A" strings in the same tuning?

Martin, go to the video section at page top.  Type in 2 string boogie and you should find a lesson and it may help for tuning.

Martin, there are several ways to make an octave 2 string.   Use the standard E and D strings from a string set and tune them both to E or D.   Or, use those strings - get the big one sounding and feeling about the right tension- then fret it (or use a slide) at the 12th fret - or halfway between the nut and saddle.   The smaller string should be tuned to match the sound of the big string fretted at the 12th.

Or use the standard A and G strings from a string set - I like this setup better and use the same method as above.

For a while, I was doing 2 strings with G strings an octave apart.  It kind of kept the diddly flavor and added a bit.  Double diddly.   Huh.  You make me want to try it again.

You should just do it and see what happens!
