Grandpa would make traction engine parts he made special tools to do work on his lathe.

They were timed using normal tools and then once his production performance time was set 

he would then pull out his own tools and make things quicker to get more performance bonus. 

Worked 52 years for one company and didn't get a gold watch. But I think this was as Fowler went bust around the time he retired due to diesel tractors and times changing.

He was a great engineer and often fixed my broken toys.. making them stronger and better.

His father I think was also a boiler maker possibly in a similar trade of engineering in Leeds.

Most of Leeds engineering has all but now faded away with time, British engineering still stands the test of time as there are many traction engines still running. 

52 years making engineering parts now that's a life time...

The smell of old Woodbine cigarettes.. has long since faded away..

My Grandpa worked 52 years for fowler traction engines until business went flat!
