Pics of an acoustic that the peg head broke years back so I stripped off the fretboard, strap nuts, and tuners. Now I am thinking of doing something with the body and I would like to either graft a…Continue

Thought I would post that Ben Prestage is playing at The Alamo here in Springfield, Illinois on Monday Aug 8. I had never heard of him or CBG's this time last year, so after reading and building and…Continue

David "Dr. Dave" Davies said… I saw your question about techniques for photos. I've had good luck with water slide paper. This essentially lets you make a decal. You find your image, maybe edit the photo, then print onto the water slide paper. It comes in both laser and ink jet varieties. You then spray it with clear acrylic. When it's dry, soak the paper in water briefly, then slide the picture off the backing onto the box.
Yeah, I know that I have never seen one before! I sort of ran into it by accident and turned out to be a freebie on top of that! The drawer bottom is solid wood, not ply... which from what I know about these things makes it fairly old. It has a match scratcher on the front of it, I didn't point that out in the video, but it's pretty cool to say the least. I like cigars, so it's a treasure to me, I will put it into use as soon as it's done. I'm not going to try and make it look new, I want to keep the "old" look preserved.

JUJU said… Cheers mate for your comments on the truss rod cover and jack socket - i was given a bit of pearloid sheet - but i would not know where to buy it from - it's propper use was for a new outer skin on a drum kit - i guess you could try a music store but it may be cheaper to buy a Stratocaster pearloid scratch plate and use that to make your parts from - other than that try ebay
Uncle John said… Thanks for your kind comments also. Yup, the builds can accumulate. But, you know, I truly enjoy about half a dozen on a frequent basis and a half dozen more on an occasional basis. I did sell 2 the last too weeks (and too cheaply, but I had my fun.) And I just finished a quickie build out of scraps that is spoken for - and I hate to let it go.
Uncle John said… You are finding some cool boxes and building some good looking builds. Good on ya.

No parts ordered, so started yet another build from parts on hand- black punch box, pool cue, will be 3 string, fretless. somewhere in the 22-24" scale. Pool cue was interesting. Never put much thought of what type of wood the dark part of the handle is until I cut into it. Still hard for me to tell, but it looks pretty, not walnut though. White part appears maple. Will use walnut for a nut, not sure what for a bridge. piezo pick up. Will not go thru n thru. Missed by about 1.5 inches. Pics…
