JL replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"I noticed the saddle adjustment screws look like they are touching the strings. Does that matter as only the first frets are buzzing Maybe, could you add a picture of what you described?  not enough break angel over the saddle can also…"

Taffy Evans replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"Hi, a crown on the fret does two things, it stops the string from vibrating on the front edge of the fret and corrects intonation, the measurements should be from the centre of the fret to the bridge and not the front of the fret. Check for loose…"

Richard Dean replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"yeah, what Taff said, flat top frets will buzz, you have to recrown them, not saying this is your only issue, but you have to eliminate it, you may have it solved and not know. And for the record, this is what most call "The fiddly Part"…"

Frank Larkin replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"They are flat from filing so much I guess...I didnt recrown them thinking they may need more filing if I find out why the buzz...had buzz with new frets and have buzz now with filed frets...don't know what to do next. Do you think recrowning…"

Taffy Evans replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"Hi, when you say frets real flat, do you mean each fretas a flat top....or you recrownd the frets and they are all level? Cos flat top frets will buzz. Taff."

Frank Larkin replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"Never solved it...just put the thing aside for awhile. I ran the file across and now have real flat frets...I used a rocker up and down the board twice filing a few as I went. I can't even tell where its buzzing...its up to thex5th fret on the…"

Taffy Evans replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"Hi Frank, it's pretty hard to pinpoint buzzing issues without having the guitar in front of you. What's already been suggested is all very valid. What Ido is before doing any levelling I make sure the neck is flat, thats a bit difficult…"

"Ok I certainly misunderstood the file info. I will try the long file over all frets. I will try to photo the gaps from string to fret at 1, 12 and 17 when I restring it"

Richard Dean replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"Also, after rereading your previous post with pic, your using the right file, but don't try to repair one fret at a time, like I previously said, you slide the file up and down the fret board, not pressing down, it's own weight of the file…"

Richard Dean replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"Do you have the ability to upload pics? If so, I would want you to take some pics at a side view and top view of the neck. Start at the nut, first off, I would like to see a pic, or at least a description of the angle the string takes over the nut,…"

Richard Dean replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"to aide in getting it to play properly with minimal buzz, make sure your height at the first fret is somewhere around 1/32nd to 3/64ths, and at the 12th fret approx 5/64ths. It's also ok to have a tiny amount of neck bow (lower) in the middle…"

Frank Larkin replied to Frank Larkin's discussion Fret questions
"Ok started filing a few frets that were rocking when I used a 3 frets at a time rocker. Some are really flat and had to go back over as one effected the other as you said. Haven't restrung it yet to see if it helped. The file I will get as it…"

Most of my necks are poplar with oak fretboards. I been using Watco Danish Oil on the necks and fretboards. I've used the various walnut versions and have been satisfied with the results.
