What do you find most interesting about cigar box guitars? (If you do not enter something meaningful here (at least one sentence long), your membership may be rejected as a spam/bot fake account).
I've stumbled on this late in life. In the 60's and 70's I did the coffee shop folk singer thing -- self taught starting playing piano in 3rd grade on, sprano uke (all string instruments self taught and I played by ear), then baritone uke, then acoustic guitar. In high school I played brass instruments -- learned whatever they needed at the time. College was more guitar and coffee shops. Then I went to work -- Undergrad degree in Art with theatre minor. I taught Art during the day to middle school and high school kids and did Musical Theatre at night. Moved to NYC - did some acting - got union cards, got divorced -- went back to 9-5 jobs. Then moved to Louisville, KY to be near sister. Went back to grad school to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensend Clinical Addiction Counselor, where I've remained for 15 years working in KY and Southern Indiana. I am burned out. Have tried to not think about Art, Music Theatre, anything creative -- but something keeps popping up -- last years have been songs popping up that I've written down a few. I would love to retire, but have to work still -- but if I don't do something in the creative fields for fun and healing the soul, so to speak, I will go crazy. Found CBG and thought, "What great pieces of folk history and folk art -- I could build those and have some fun! Then I saw Samantha Fish playing an oil/gas can 6-string on YouTube and was blown away. I've always loved the blues -- can't sing much anymore, but I would like to play what I build and honestly -- I believe it is truly part of this movement that people with no experience or little or long ago can get pretty obsessed by this (my Sun Room is now my workshop, compete with tools and collections of junk for doing Steampunk CBG maybe. Believe it or not -- this is the abbreviated form of how I got here...I hope it's meaningful enough. Yes or no -- it's how I came to get sucked in to this remarkable world.
P.S. -- love there's an NYC subway player guy. In my 17 years there I've enviously thrown in a five or so into the guitar case and said a thank you for being there -- always helped me pause for a moment in time to enjoy the music. Thanks Subway Playin' Guy.
