I have the perfect bone cleaner. She's called Ginny and she is a 9 year Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Hi Norm, not sure there's going to be a second one,lol!!...it's such horrible stuff to work with.
It's beef bone, which I got from a pet stall on the market. It had some horrible gunk inside which left this awful smell even after I'd scooped it all out. I boiled it for hrs, then soaked it in bleach until eventually it was liveable with. I would recommend getting a marrow bone from a butcher rather than one of those pet shop ones.
I then cut it to length with a hacksaw (much foul smelling dust - wear a mask and goggles!!) I was very lucky and the bone I had was exactly the right size for my finger, which I'm sure was a complete fluke. So then I just shaped the outside with a file, then used gradually finer files...then sandpaper, gradually finer and finer.
Next I polished it...I have a little mini drill (eBay) which came with a polishing thing so I used that with some guitar polish rubbed on...did that 3 or 4 times until it was as smoooth as a baby's bum!!!
As you may gather that all took quite a while....if you want to make one and want some advice from a real expert ask Randy Bretz...or if I've put you off making one, buy one from him : -)...I only made this as I thought he's stopped doing them, but he hasn't!

Tell me more about the slide? Where did you get the raw material and what was the process of making it? Maybe document the making of the second one in a video?

thanks Randy and Wes! I feel like at some point when I have more time I want to do another one... a bit straighter, with no cracks...and maybe a try a bit of carving, but this sounds great which is the main thing, so it will do me for now : -)
