Back from work, guess which box I prefer to fiddle around with... You can be happy with a simple acoustic box. Guess which one I could sell...

Funny,I made my first, neck thru and put the hole to the side (much smaller), didn't really see how a centered hole could work.

But I like that a lot too :D

Some good advice here, going to have to revist my build a little more before I wrap it up.

As I'm interested in acoustic CBGs primarily, I try to optimize a freely vibrating top and bottom of the box, and I think there are three principles for best results: gaps between top and neck and bottom and neck, a symmetric layout of the top, and a bridge not to near to the edge of the box. An oversized sound hole (3") accentuates the treble strings, has twang, and sounds a bit like a resonator, a small one (1.5") gives a warmer tone with more bass sound.
