Yes you can definitely do this, I've only done it (option 2:guitar thru jack) on a lap steel but same difference. Note recent discussions here regarding a diode where each input signal leaves its own volume pot in order to prevent inputA sneaking off to ground when you roll off the volume on inputB

You could certainly put one of those preamps for an acoustic guitar in it too like you say (3a). if you do add one then add two, one for each side, you'll want to buffer the piezo on the foot drum as well.

Odd...

I was re-visiting "stomp boxes" only yesterday. Is it like a phase of the moon or something that makes us all think of the same instruments?

Please keep this thread going. I've gotta' go visit the local junk stores to see what I can find that looks noisy.
