Hiya folks

I have one cbg that when I use the g b and e strings the high g string always breaks when I try to tune it to gdg so I tried using the a d and g strings the a string breaks. This is the only cbg that I have made that does this. All the others I use g b and e strings and it works fine. Am I  missing something? ?????????????

Not sure what you are using for a nut....I had trouble tuning up my e string to a g so I bought a set of extra slinky strings with .008 gauge e string....read that going from .009 to .008 would help this....only been a few days so can't really tell you that this is a permanent fix....seems to work so far

Are All the cbgs the same scale length?

If its breaking in the same place every time, eg, saddle, nut or tuner post, there could lie the problem.

Sometimes it breaks at the nut and sometimes at the bridge and I have used the same set up on other cbgs

Is your tuner in chromatic mode or guitar mode?

in guitar mode it will give you the wrong octave for some notes and you'll over-tighten the string and break it...

Hi Mark, keep in mind that the lighter the string the less energy it produces when plucked so less volume from your guitar.

I normally run 13 or 16 gauge as my 1st string tuned dad, I just strung up my latest CBG to open A it has a 10g first. Scale is 25". A bit too light for me.

Try not using the tuner for the 1st and use your ear to get it in unison with the 3rd string. Sometimes I find that one can be guided, mistakenly, by the string tension/feel and tune to the next octave. Just a thought.
