Ah, my first attempt was a CBG using a Perdomo box and I did something very similar with the sound hole.  But we learn from the mistakes we make. When I do training or help out at the makerspace, I tell folks its as important to learn how to hide your mistakes as it is to learn not to make them.

That first one was a 3 string with a standard CBG through neck design.  No electronics.  Still sounded good.

Like I said, I hang out at the local Makerspace.  My following project was that first uke.  I used a 3d printer to make a template I could use to outline some "F-holes" like on a violin or cello.  It worked great.  The cut was by hand and not 100% symmetric on the body, but so close that you can hardly notice.  Now I'm using the laser cutter to cut sound holes and layout the frets on my necks.

Hi Tony,

Saw your post and picture in the "Introduce Yourself" section.  Glad to have you here.

I'm building Ukes, too.  I like the bracing that you're using, something that isn't well discussed or documented here that I've found.  I'm not a player but love to build, so I'm learning on my own.

IMHO the tenor is the way to go!  I've got 2 soprano's I've made, but there is no way I can get comfortable playing them.  Well, playing isn't the right word... plucking them?  Just small and the frets are too close together.

I've picked up a couple of the AVO boxes, but I've consigned them to the "later" pile or perhaps will use them for other things.  They seem very thick and stiff.  I'd really like to hear what you think of them when you're finished. Do they sound good?

I've used an "El Gueneguense" box for the one completed tenor I have.  It sounds extremely good.  The two soprano's are out of "Hell Cat" boxes.  Sound is good, but of course, much *smaller*.

I work out of a makerspace here in Santa Fe, NM.  So right now, my activities are very limited - everything is closed.  But I have 3 more in the works.

Hope to hear from you and ENJOY YOUR UKES!
