I found out until I have surgery on my eyes, "STOP trying to read a ruler!" I pains takenly and as precise as I could be laid out the frets for a 25.5" scale, each time check it (even with dial calipers) I would be off by a football field. Then I borrowed my buddies  guitar laid my aluminum yardstick down and marked "all" neccisary components, took it home laid it down to compare notes. I suck at this! I have the 25.5" scale covered and will have 24's covered when my neighbor gets back from vacation.(has all the CB GITTY templates) the one I need I can't find, it's a one and only time! Is a 30.5" scale fret layout! If anybody has it and willing to share it on a full-size strip of paper, be more than willing to pay postage as well be grateful for your help. Even with a magnifying glass the markings on a ruler are blurry. If you are willing to share pm me and ill give you my address. Thanks

Many fret calculators out there.,.,for free.,.,that generate templates.,.,stew- mac is the one i hear of.,.,but the boys will chime in.,.,therre are some good ones and they are all free.,.,good luck.,.,.,!  I building a 27.5" scale as we speak,.,.,.,new to me.,.,

Getting the measurements isn't the problem, reading the markings on my ruler is! Close up things are fuzzy and it'd be a best guess. Are you building a bass?

Just trying long scale for a change.,.,I have built about 150 that use a 24" scale.,.,change is always around the corner.,.,

This one is my first one I started on and haven't been able to complete(17" Cigar box) for various reasons. I'm finishing up 2 and 3, with orders for 3 more. I have the 25.5' scale layoutand I can see well enough to see where to mark. I'm rapidly losing my sight and can't read the marks on a rule, This why I was hoping someone Would step and layout the scale for me. Surgery is either going to help or hinder.

you need to enable flash to see the save buttons but this will calculate any scale inches or mm and if you save the pdf you can print it out , glue it to the neck and cut on the lines..  30.5%20fretboard.pdf

and thats a 30.5 inch scale length already saved and ready to print.. after you print it out double check the printed lines to the measurements listed.  some printers may not print exactly 100%.

Thanks Tim, I can go to a print shop and have this printed out. What measurements were you referring to? A 4page fretboard is all I got, but I'll double check. Thank you again.

i meant to check the print out against the calculated fret positions.  ie it is easier to check the 12 th fret as it should be 15 1/4" from the nut for a 30 1/2" scale length

Thanks Tim, I should have thought of that! This is some program, more to it then I fully understand at the present!

too smart for its own good.. if you want to it can calculate a fan fret for you... ( runs away ducking...lol)

No joke! If I'm reading this program right, it even tells you how to set up a tail piece to the correct lengths of each string so you don't have to skew the bridge.

Damn it! Finally got the friggen printer to work. Nut to #12 fret is 3/4" off! Glad you warned me about printer accuracy! What a bummer, next week when I get into town I'll go to a staples or office depot and have them print some out for me in different scales.

"Fan frets"? Aren't they used for "Just intonation" what a pain in the ass that would be to route out!

make sure that "fit to page"is turned off. if not the printer will shrink the image to fit the margins of your printer..  try looking in the properties of the printer when you go to print and turn the margins to 0 and check that it is printing 100% . its called either shrink to fit or fit to page .....

It didn't shrink, it was too long. But I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
