Perhaps this is a weird question but, then again, being a beginner I tend to think questions should be asked lol. I'm building an lap steel type instrument but with a tin and a piezo pickup inside the tin. The bridge is going to sit atop the tin and the piezo inside the tin lid. I like pretty things, in the traditional sense of the word, and I'm wondering could I cover my build with material glued around the bottom, sides, under the tin, nut, bridge and strings? I suspect this would affect the acoustic sound but would it affect the amped sound? I live in a ground floor apartment too so a quieter acoustic sound that doesn't affect the amped sound would only be a good thing because I could use headphones late at night when I'd usually be unable to play. I'm genuinely intrigued as to whether this could work.

Thanks in advance for all help and advice.

Look's nice, it even has a cup holder.

Thank youuuuu! :D

Hi everyone. In order to wrap up the thread I thought it would be nice to share the audio recording test for this build. Please bear in mind though that I can't play for toffee and I'm recording on a laptop without a professional set up and using an amp designed for ukulele without the overdrive function. Either way, I hope you like it :)

yup , sounds like it  works  ;-)

fun fun fun   , aint  it  ?

Fun indeed. So much fun it's probably illegal lol

Sounds good Dani ,you seem to have either by luck or excellent placement, got your piezo mounted and placed where you have no real noise issues, sounded pretty clean to me,well done.P S,i know it was excellent placement

Hey Darryl. Glad that you like the sound. Believe me though, it was sheer and utter luck! I forgot the step where I was supposed to place it and see where it sounded best. Shucks, I even forgot to do the tap test on the piezo to make sure it was working before I potted it! I should be sent to the naughty step haha

In that small tin you didn't have a lot of fudge room, but it turned out well.

lol trust me, I don't need much fudge room to get things wrong usually! It's a miracle I actually got it in the tin and not under it or in a white glob on top of the lid haha. Thanks again, Darryl. I feel like a kid in a candy shop. I can't get enough of playing it today. I had to go for an ultrasound scan appointment on my shoulder (found out I've got nerve impingement but that's another story) and I couldn't wait to get home and play some more. Soooo much fun!
