Well... here it is... my very first guitar build. This is an electric/acoustic fretless slider. I cut/engraved the box and fingerboard with my laser cutter.
I made a few mistakes along the way but gained an excellent guitar building education.
As always... critiques are welcome. I'm off to the next one!!!
Thanks,
Steve

What ain't to love about that ? I think it makes a statement. One thing you should rethink is,how much corner protection is offered by burned box corner or the amount of sound that comes from a burned sound hole? Mix real holes with the features.Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Just my humble opinion. You are on to something .
hmmm... so you think the sound trough burned hole may be different than sounds through drilled holes?
Thanks,
Steve
I can only see black on the surface. It is a photo subject to interpretation..If they are holes and the box interior is painted black then I give you an "A" for detail. That was what I see.I say again ,what ain't there to love ? JMHO
OK... now I see where you're coming from. I agree, by looking at the photos it does appear that the holes may be etched/burned into the wood surface. As you later suspected, the holes are cut all the way through and the inside of the box is painted black.
I truly appreciate the kind words.
I think the pattern of the holes helps make the overall look of the box. It helps frame the central character in the center, I wouldn't change the pattern, but you may try to cut some of the holes through and just etching/burning some.It definitely makes a difference in the tone. The top vibrates and it makes a difference in the size and placement of the holes. The actual mechanics of it is a science. There are folks on here who know far better than I. The placement and size in relationship to the edge affects the treble and bass. You got a look going, Some people will buy for a wall hanger, some want it to play.Stay at it.
Thanks Bama!!! Funny thing... That was going to be a question that I was going to post on the forum soon. I was hopping to learn more about sound hole placement, quantity and size... because I don't have a clue about what I'm doing regarding sound holes.
Steve, there has been quite a bit posted on sound holes. Search box in top right corner of the page should put you on some good stuff. I am telling you it does matter. The closer you are to the edges offers a mechanical damper. The bigger the hole offers more treble, thinner slits toward the middle enhance bass. This is really kind of generalizations, just mull the thoughts around in your head. Also search "f" holes to get results. Nah! I ain't pulling your leg or any other appendages. (;-D)
Thanks man!!!
I doubt you'd hear any difference... I think the Hound was referring to the illusion that the holes are just etched in the surface... from your earlier pics, they go through... I'm sure it sounds great!
Did you end up reinforcing the box?
I did reinforce the box. I have 1/2" square dowels running along all corners. The neck/heel is built up inside the box so that I can attached the box to the neck from the front and back of the box. It is very solid.
Looks great!
Look's good, I like the headstock shape too.
