i  guess ill  start  this  off    with  my  dead  ringer  .

“dead  ringer “  special  Halloween  edition  swamp witch guitar  .

The term  “DEAD  RINGER” :-is “ often”  related to an old English fear  of being  buried alive.  Cemeteries started tying a string around the wrist of the corpse  & attached  it to a bell  . If the bell rang, the graveyard employees had to dig em up . They even  employed  someone to stay there all night and listen for bells (thus the phrase 'graveyard shift'). And saved by the bell .

Tis also   said to  mean someone  that is  an exact duplicate  of  someone   that  has    passed  .. as if come back to life .

A special one of  a kind  Halloween  themed  3 stringer  slide   cigar box  style   swamp witch guitar .

Eyes are   vintage  flash cards  from cracker  jack    box prizes  . they  change   from  open to  closed   depending on angle of view  .

-real coffin nail ,  to  use as  a  capo /or  slide
-silver plated bell  on headstock   Tied to  the  hand   (with  broken string ) (dead  ringer )
-mortician's yard stick fret board...  ;-)

hand halloween prop.  Doubles as a slide holder .

and tons of spooky mojo goodsness

Creepy Good! Like the funeral ad fret board with the night number............

lol  ..   even  better  yet  ,  the  other side  of the yard stick is  on the    back  . and  says  "  home  furnishings   ,-  Day  phone   number " .

Yup  ,  bury  you at  night  , and sell  your stuff the  next  day  .  :-/

Looks great, nice one.

thanx adam  ;-)

Presenting my "FRANKEN-LELE," made from dead lunchbox and ukulele parts, just like Frankenstein, himself. This Lunchbox-A-Lele has been displayed in numerous art gallery and museum exhibits and is featured in my "Monster Mash" music video, as well as my YouTube video encouraging people to build their own creations and play'em!

Here's my additional 3 pix! Who needs a "TRICK or TREAT" bag when you have Ukulele Ray's "FRANKEN-LELE."

Nice clean creepy build !!!

It seems there is already some stiff competition... or for this contest, is it more appropriate to say the competition are a bunch of stiffs?

At any rate, I just finished this 2-String, Electric Chugger just last week.  I saw this posting only yesterday, and thought it's cool how that worked out.

I have had this box for a while, and from the first time I saw it, I knew I wanted to do something "Vampire-inspired".  With the font chosen for the title of the box ("The Culture"), the dark, almost purple mahogany color of the box, and the ornate silver hinges... what else could I have made?

  • It's a 2-stringer Chugger (with the G and B strings from a traditional pack, tuned to A and E).
  • I did add a mono-jack and volume pot wired to a piezo that is wedged between the neck and the box lid inside.
  • The box is an Alec Bradley box that I carved the silhouette of a coffin and spider web, as well as a vampire skull into.
    • I cut out the eye and nose sockets, as well as the body of the spider, for the sound holes.
  • The guitar is setup for a 25" scale
  • I carved the end of the dowel (the tail piece) to try making the neck look like a stake you would kill a vampire with.
    • To add to this effect, I painted that end with two colors of red to make it resemble a mixture of dried and fresh blood.
    • The tail piece is intentionally blunted on that end so that the player doesn't accidentally stab him/herself or anyone else while wielding this instrument.
    • The headstock is a simple and clean cut out, complete with some open gear tuners from CBGitty.
    • I precisely measured out where the frets would be (if it had frets), but then rough cut the marks into place and made it look like they were burned in.
      • The thought was to make them like hash marks for however many vampires had been killed.
      • I also scratched in crosses for the fret markers, using the same technique to make them appear as if they were burned in.

I am not sure what else I could have done better with this build, other than finding an old key to use for the bridge and something better for the nut. I still may do that if I happen to luck out with finding something.  Overall she, sounds great (will post a video to YouTube over the next week or so).

Does the day of the dead count?

3.6mm ply box with fan strutted front, twin piezo's,mahogany neck dovetailed to box, front painted in oils.

nice

Thanks Pick
