So a while ago a very nice bloke whom many of you know on here (David L) gave me an almost full car load of instrument related goodies. In one of the boxes was a strip of what looked like capacitors. I do remember him mentioning something about them but I was a bit excited about all the other shiny stuff to take what he said in. On the strip is written "Ceramic Resonators - wire up 2 legs to output and they are microphonic" I had a quick google and couldn't find anything relating to their use as microphones but it does seem that they are built in a similar way to piezos, they just look like 3 leg capacitors.

SSo I had a bit of a play wiring one up in all different ways and got nothing but electronic noise (you know the type I mean, the "that definitely isn't working" buzz) Couldn't get a single bit of vibration out of it even when whacking it on something so they either don't work as microphones (although whoever wrote on the strip certainly seems to think so) or I'm just doing it wrong.

Any ideas? Anybody even heard of these?? One for the electrical types on here I would of thought. Hopefully David will see this and fill me in, I do remember he said he had been given them but not tried them so maybe he could give us a bit more info. Certainly an interesting concept if it is at all possible.
