I bulit this witch with a cheap noname single coil pickup and as you can see on the pics it is not really well positioned. I don't know exactly why but its sound is very low witha lot of bass. You hardly can hear the high E. Once I tried it in bright mode of an amp which was ok, but on any other amps it sound low. What do you think? Maybe I should change the pickup to a bridge humbucker in the same position? Change to a better single coil? Any idea? Thanks.

can you raise the high E side and lower the low E side...maybe shim it somehow?

Yep I've tried it but when I would say high E is ok, the low side must but so far away from the string that is getting cloudy or bumpy.

i  believe  it  is  cursed  for attempting to call  it  a "witch"   ;-)

but  yeah  ..  are   those    electric     "steel"   guitar strings  ?   if   not and they are acoustic  bronze  ,  they  will sound  muddy   .

if that  aint it  ,  try  swapping out the pup  .  if that  dont work  ..   put a  pup  in  the bridge   position  .

hehe yes they are 0.10 steel strings for electric guitar and that's what I was thinking first. To put in a bridge pickup. But you know I want to keep the drawing. So it is clear that I need to cut out the piece of the top where the humpucker pup will be and use that piece as pup cover. It is simple as brain surgery :)

Why not put a rod piezo in under the saddle? That would brighten it up, and give you options...

Rule of thumb here. The closer the pickup to the neck the lower the tone. Closer to the bridge the brighter. Not sure why your not hearing the high E string. As long as each string is equal distance from the pickup all the strings should have the same volume. If your pickup is higher on the low E side the lower strings will be louder.

That is the most AWESOME paint job! I've copied this picture just for inspiration. YOU ROCK! I'm going to use this pic as a desk top background!!!!!

Thanks! I tell it to my wife, she is the painter!

easiest way to make a guitar sound brighter...

if that saddle is a crappy plastic one swap it out for something much harder..  bone, or for extreme bright, steel...

for further sizzle repeat with the nut ;)

modifying circuity is all well and good, but its always best imho to start with the actual physical properties of the thing

Yes that is something I am actually planning to do. But the funny thing is it sounds bright and shiny without amplifier. I have problem with the electronics it sure.

maybe the single coil can't handle the amount bass the body is giving out and is getting swamped with too many different vibes....make a sound hole, fit an acoustic pickup and you'll soon get yer twang back! :-)

...and get a Fender amp!
