I am trying to find a way to record 4 tracks (live) at once with a decent but affordable audio interface
Either fire wire or usb.
I have purchased an Alexis I04 recently , but it wont play ball with Acid Pro 8 and the Cubase wont work either..
So it works as a mixer but not as a recording interface for me.
I have been recomended the Akai unit, but on the internet this also has lots of driver issues.
Previously I have used a Line pod 6 UX2 which is brilliant, but it only does 2 channels at once.
Plus the valve recording station shown above..(cheap used off ebay)
Help has anyone cracked an easy afordable way of doing this with low noise, maybe with a USB mixer.?
I'm trying to find the right bit of kit seems much more tricky than it needs to be..
Also do cheap USB mixers add loads of noise or are they ok for recording and does anyone do one that allows four track recording into Acid pro all at once.
All ideas are wellcome.....

I've been looking at buying a better interface for my set up. At the moment I get by using a Novation Xio 25 keyboard as an interface, but that's only good for a single channel. Like you guys, I want to be able to record multiple inputs onto separate tracks (so I can re-mix or otherwise mess with them later). I've been looking at the following two possibles, both currently selling new around the £145-£150 mark.
Akai EIE Pro - looks to have a good range of features and good build quality, gives 4 independent inputs, also works as a USB hub.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 - only two inputs, got good write-ups on some guitar forums.
As for DAW software, I've used Audacity until now but that's pretty limited (only really good for one track at a time, no MIDI support). I'll probably end up with either Reaper or Cubase Elements.
Steinberg couldnt sort my issues out either so I have returned my second I04, im sure if you were Bill Gates
you might be able to write your own unnstall programe for elicencer to solve my issues.
My best recomendation would be AVOID...(Steinberg were in fairness quite helpful, but didnt fix it for me)
Next time trust the reviews!!!... ie Avoid the Akai one too.!..
My line pod ux2 is quite good but makes my machine crash regularly... we shouldnt need to put up with stuff like that...If you dont get computers buy an Ipad and garage band for £5.99 and Irig record for free...lol
Bar Humbug....hey it can only get better!
Er, where do you get that from?...The Akai review you linked to said it was pretty good.
Trouble with reviews is that for every product there seem to be differing reviews which say something along the following lines:
(a) This is total crap / broke 5 minutes after opening the box / drivers cause terrible latency / won't work with [insert name here] software
(b) This is fucking brilliant / great features / easy to use / my band just recorded an album with it!
Found what I need!

ok maybe not..
Sorted it just need this : http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/r16
and its cheaper than a 4 usb audio interface plus has 16 channel inputs and a few more toys...
