Another question....I've seen a few builds on here with the acoustic guitar style bridge with pins. Do these work well on CBG's? I've read a fair bit on here about the tension required and wondered if that's a problem for the bridge pin setup. I'm only building 3-strings so I guess the tension is minimal?.....

The coolest things about bridge pins is when you mistakenly push the ball end of the string into the body with the tip of the pin. Then tuning up to tension launches the pin across the room as the string suddenly overcomes the tension on the pin in the bridge. And then you are much less casual about stringing up the guitar next time.
Haha...thanks Eric. At last, a less serious comment ;-)
Bridge pins work great. Don't drill you pin holes to large, just enough to make it tight with string and pin in hole. Makes yours different than others, nice addition. Everyone wants to make things complicated, use them and don't worry about all this math, foot pounds, a bunch of crap, makes them sound like they know more than they do...You must understand this site, some want to make it sound as if they are experts even if they have build only 2 guitars. Its usually the same ones that do this, some more than others.
Of course it helps to use a bridge pin reamer while frequently trial fitting the pins. The reamer cuts a tapered hole to conform to the shape of the pin.
Thanks Wichita....appreciate all the advice I can get!
If you don't already have one, you can pick up a reamer off Ebay for 12.97/free shipping.....
Mr J lee, i will humbly offer my thoughts on this. I have done this myself. first off. you cannot just drill a hole for a bridge pin to work properly. it must be taper reamed. to fit. Also the bridge pin does not hold the tension of the string the bottom of the bridge plate does if done properly. a small slot is cut in the forward edge of the pin hole on teh bridge to the bridge plate . when the ball of the string is placed into the hole and forced forward by the bridge pin. once under pressure from tuning it pulls the ball end into the slot and to the bridge plate . if you look at original bridgepins , they did not have slots in em. those came later for ease of production. and if you ask any old guitar repair guy they will tell you those slotted pins are the reason for most bridge plate damage out there . Not that im trying to presume or act like I know anything . I can read though. Im with the pk on this its no easy feat making everything come together proper. but then again you can just drill some holes and make a nice addition . its your gitty . Try it experiment . thats how we all learn .
Appreciate your input 14 - seems the process might just be a little more complicated than I'd originally anticipated. I'm only just finishing my first build now so perhaps, at this early stage, I should just keep things simple. Just thought it was a nice look. I can understand why now I haven't seen many CBG's with them fitted ;-)
It's like I said, Know it alls will reply. Its simple and all of what Bass buck is telling you in his note is what you will discover when you use the pin in Bridge method, what he is implying is that you and I can't read, use the pins and drilling holes is the only way to get the pins in place, cant drive them with a hammer. Now, I'm telling you of pins in wood through box, pins work great.
