Thanks Wes and RTZ. 

I'm using it as a recorder at the moment.  I bought it because I don't really get on with computer recording packages and wanted something quite simple with real knobs and buttons.  The R8 has a lot of effects and capability but can be used as a basic recorder, which is great.
